Call for submissions for DSW’s very first… Quick + Dirty: A Festival for Emerging Choreographers and Ideas, April/May 2020

Dancers’ Studio West is pleased to announce our first annual Quick + Dirty, a one day festival celebrating short works and new ideas by up-and-coming Alberta dance artists.

Artists will have an opportunity to workshop ideas together in advance of the festival in a 5-day Creative Intensive with our AD, Sasha Ivanochko. 5 Alberta artists will be chosen to present works of 10 – 12 minutes in length, twice in one day. Performances will take place at cSPACE King Edward. Minimal tech will be provided. We do the publicity. Here is more info:

-Q + D features young, new voices. We are interested in knowing your perspectives on the world around you, and want to support your artistic engagement with it. We welcome applications from choreographers working across disciplines and genres, and from diverse cultural backgrounds and forms. Choreographers must have professionally produced a minimum of three works. Some exceptions for work produced in an academic settings may be given.

-The Creative Intensive is free. Choreographers must come prepared with a finished structure, be ready to receive feedback, and have a willingness to experiment and undergo transformation with alternative choreographic methodologies.

-Choreographers receive a fee of $750 for presenting in the Quick + Dirty.

  • a current CV
  • a two-page statement detailing your artistic aspirations and values, the idea for the piece you will bring to the festival, and a list of collaborators
  • links to your most recent choreographic work and a short description on how it is relevant to what you are working on for the Quick + Dirty.
