Ashley Brodeur is a dance professional and creative leader with extensive experience in performance, teaching, choreography, and production. She is the Creator and Director of Maven Movement, where she has spent the past nine years providing professional-level performance and training opportunities on an equitable scale. Ashley’s work ensures high-caliber performance experiences are accessible to all, particularly those underrepresented in traditional professional atmospheres. She is also the Manager of Performing Arts at the National accessArts Centre (NaAC) in Alberta, Canada, where she fosters inclusion and empowers artists with disabilities through innovative programs like the internationally supported ICONIC+ initiative, funded by the National Creation Fund.
Ashley’s career blends a commitment to inclusivity with innovative approaches to dance and movement. She leads the Integrated Dance and Movement Lab at the University of Calgary’s Kinesiology Department, sharing her expertise in inclusive dance practices. At Maven Movement, she cultivates safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals and diverse body sizes, offering performance programs and specialized workshops to expand access to training and creative exploration.
In 2024, Ashley co-produced Camera Lucida, a groundbreaking collaboration between the NaAC Dance Ensemble and South Korean choreographer collective Project YYIN, which premiered at the renowned Seoul Performing Arts Festival (SPAF). The production blended choreography, spoken word, and visual art, highlighting Ashley’s ability to lead cross-cultural projects and push the boundaries of integrated dance.
Ashley’s training includes programs at George Brown College’s Commercial Dance Program, York University’s BFA Dance Program, and the Professional Training Program at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. She has expanded her expertise with training in Los Angeles, Toronto, and Saint Petersburg, Russia, and has taught extensively across Canada and internationally, including the Dominican Republic. A long-time faculty member at the School of Decidedly Jazz and iLLFX Education, Ashley has also guest-taught at numerous studios, sharing her deep knowledge and adaptability with students of all levels.
Her professional performance credits include Culture Shock Washington, D.C., the Dubai Shopping Festival, The Fringe Festival, TIFF, BravoFact!, and collaborations with brands like L’Oréal, Labatt, and Xbox. She has performed at Toronto’s Choreographer’s Ball and the Much Music Video Awards with PSY, among other high-profile events, showcasing her versatility as a performer.
With a neurodivergent perspective, Ashley embraces the unique challenges and opportunities that shape her creative and professional endeavors. Deeply involved in residencies, international collaborations, and interdisciplinary work, she continues to challenge traditional norms of dance and accessibility. Ashley is currently considering further studies to deepen her expertise in disability arts and inclusive dance, underscoring her dedication to growth, learning, and innovation. Recently she has worked with Propeller Dance, VibraFusion Labs, Daniel Vais of Drag Syndrome, Sky Cubacub of Rebith Garments, Laurel Lawson and Parable Dance. She has also trained with AXIS Dance Company and Full Radius.
