Movement Workshop: Dancing with Diatoms

April 4 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Paid workshop, application required

Description
We are seeking dance, theatre, circus and other movement professionals for a one-day workshop in Edmonton exploring light, connection, and microscopic life. This paid workshop will contribute to Diatom Lanterns, an interdisciplinary art project led by Kira Hunt that explores the question: How can microscopic life inspire light-based art?

The movement portion will be led by contemporary dance artist Janita Frantsi. Through individual exercises and group work, we will translate biology themes into collaborative movements, develop illuminated props, and tell stories of diatoms through dance. We are looking for 5 artists and a mix of disciplines, styles, and abilities. Workshop participants will be paid $300 for their expertise and contributions. By applying you may also be considered for the future development of this project. No prior science experience required.
