DISPLACED – W & M Physical Theatre

DISPLACED
W & M Physical Theatre’s newest physical theatre work, Displaced, was initially conceptualized in 2020 as an exploration of place and home. As voluntary immigrants to Canada and travellers in our work as artists, we’ve come to understand the impact of leaving our homeland and how that affects family, language, cultural specifics and the physical landscape that defines home for us.
Displaced is not just a performance, it’s an emotional journey. It delves into the complex mix of feelings that come with cross-cultural experiences, the thrill of adventure, the expansion of knowledge, but also the pangs of loss, the yearning for ‘belonging,’ and the deep, visceral longing for home. It’s a journey that explores the resilience of the human spirit, our ability to adapt to new environments, and the remarkable capacity of humans to form new bonds of support and kinship.
The performance opens with the premiere of the short film “Displaced” followed by the stage performance of the work, which marks the premiere of both.
Featuring Guest Artist Izabela Zawadzka (Poland), with 14 W&M Physical Theatre and WM2 performers.
