DESCRIPTION:International Tap Day Celebration \nCALGARY ALBERTA\, May 27-28\, 2023 – Tasha Lawson\, Artistic director of Tri-Tone Productions\, is excited to invite you to our 5th Annual Tap Day Celebration.  \nIn partnership with the National Music Centre and Jaimie Hill & Tammy-Lynn Powers Memorial Foundation\, we bring together over 80 Tap Dancers from across Alberta for an eclectic evening of rhythm and expression\, honouring the legacy of Tap Legend\, the late Bill “Bojangles” Robinson. \nThe focus of the weekend is to develop a vibrant\, inspired\, and inclusive tap dance community\,  \nto create a platform for the creation and presentation of new work\, and to advance and celebrate rhythm tap and the percussive arts in Alberta. Tap Day is a community-oriented event\, welcoming rhythmic artists\, musicians and spectators of all ages. \nThis year also marks the 10th Anniversary of the Tri-Tone Rhythm Ensemble\, Calgary’s pre-professional intensive tap training program\, so we have expanded our Tap Day Celebrations to include community workshops and two performances at the National Music Center.  \nWe invite you to join us for our concert presentations of “DOUBLE TIME”; a double bill featuring: \nThe 5th Annual Tap Day Community Concert and Tri-Tone Rhythm Ensemble’s 10th Anniversary.  \nAct 1 will present Tap Dancers from across Alberta\, including music selections of jazz greats\, classical icons\, and contemporary artists. Act 2 will share a compilation of Tri-Tone works from the past decade\, taking the viewer through a retrospective\, rhythmic journey.   \nNational Tap Day was first presented to U.S. Congress on February 7\, 1989 and was signed into US-American law by President George H.W. Tap Day is celebrated online\, with over 27.5 million mentions on social media in 2018. \nHonouring the legacy of Tap Legend\, the late Bill “Bojangles” Robinson\, over 60 Tap dancers from across the province gather to present an eclectic evening of rhythm. This all-ages event includes music selections of jazz greats\, classical icons\, and contemporary artists\, performed by inspired youth and professional artists. \nThe focus of the concert is to develop a vibrant\, inspired\, and expressive tap dance community\, to create a platform for the creation and presentation of new work\, and to advance and celebrate rhythm tap and the percussive arts in Alberta. DESCRIPTION:In partnership with National Music Centre with support from Scotiabank Backbeat\, Lawson Percussive Dance Arts Company is excited to bring live tap dance\, body percussion and movement to the Studio Bell for an afternoon of pop-up performances.  \nThe company will activate numerous museum exhibits with tap battles\, rhythmic soundscapes\, body music\, staircase dances\, and choreographic compositions\, celebrating Canadian icons Oscar Peterson\, KD Lang\, Diana Krall\, and music from around the globe. Live musicians include bass player Kodi Hutchinson and vocalist Johanna Sillanpaa. \nPlay It Forward\, integrates rhythm tap\, body percussion and somatic movement practices into a unique visual and rhythmic experience\, invigorating the viewers’ senses.  LPDAC will have you snapping your fingers\, while tapping into the heartbeat of our shared human experience during the pandemic.
