DESCRIPTION:Good Women Dance Collective is proud to present the culmination of its FEATURE ARTIST PROGRAM with the debut of Jess McMann’s original work\, all these things collide inside of me.\nDATES & TIMES:\nMay 4 7:30pm (Opening reception).\nMay 5 7:30pm (ASL/Deaf-Interpreted\, audio description & post-show\ndiscussion)\nMay 6 2:00pm\n\nABOUT JESS MACMANN\nJessica McMann is an Alberta -based Cree (Cowessess\, SK)\, multi-disciplinary artist. She interweaves land\, Indigenous identity\, history\, and language throughout her dance and music creation/performance practice. A classically trained flutist\, she holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary and an MFA in Contemporary Arts from Simon Fraser University. Her work fuses together traditional language and dance with her own contemporary experiences as an Indigenous woman and Two-Spirit person. She also is a champion powwow dancer and spends time travelling in the summer.\nHer first album of Indigenous-Classical music “Incandescent Tales” (June 2021) won Global Music Awards as well as Classical Album of the year at the 2022 YYC Music Awards. She was nominated for Indigenous Arts of the year at the 2022 WCMA’s.\nShe is currently working on her second album slated to be released October 2023. Her musical\, composition\, and soundscapes focus on land based creation and ideas of connection\, disconnection\, and home.\nHer compositions include The Realities We Have Made (2022\, Cecilia Concerts) Muskwa’s Mountain Home (2021\, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra)\, Inni (2018\, Coastal Jazz) and soundscapes including beguiling (the) land (2020\, Project 686). Jessica has played and performed venues and festivals across Canada\, as well as toured in Sweden\, and with Laura Vinson in the Netherlands\, and Belgium. “Too Good; That MAY Be”\, an immersive soundscape performance was shown at the Urban Shaman Gallery in Winnipeg as part of “The 60’s Scoop; A Place Between” in 2017.\nJessica currently resides in Cochrane\, Alberta\, where she works for the City of Calgary as Curator of Indigenous Art. DESCRIPTION:As part of the Alberta Dance Alliance- Community Workshop Series\, on October 21\, you are invited to attend this workshop for educators to enhance knowledge on how to integrate dance in your curriculum following the practices developed by Foolish Operations and its artistic director\, Julie Lebel. Register Now! \nThis workshop is for educators\, parents or artists of various disciplines working with the very young to explore benefits and strategies for more dance in their curriculum. The workshop starts with a conversation and exchange on the topic of dance in the early years to assess the needs of the group and create a community of peers. We will explore Foolish Operations’ strategies for relationship-based dance exercises that respond to children’s attachment needs and respects the physical developmental stages of children in the early years. The workshop will close with self-care relaxing movement exercises for caregivers. \nJulie Lebel graduated with a B.F.A. in Dance and is a choreographer specializing in community-engaged arts and dance in the early years. \nShe will also be presenting her show Paper Playground at the Arden Theatre in St Albert from October 17 to 19. \nPlease RSVP and register for the workshop by September 30. \nLocation: La Girandole\, #12\, 8627 91 Street.
