DESCRIPTION:Free Flow Dance Theatre presents a free week-long online showcase highlighting the cultural diversity and collaborations of different dance artists in short daily live streams from April 25th through to May 1st. DESCRIPTION:Applications to participate are now open! Deadline to apply is January 31\, 2021.  \nWe are currently in the process of planning our International Dance Week Showcase for 2021. Inquiries and Artist Applications can be directed to freeflowdance@gmail.com. \nThe pandemic has had lasting repercussions on the live performance world. Free Flow Dance Theatre is presenting a week-long online showcase highlighting the cultural diversity of Canadian dance artists. The event will promote cross-collaboration between cultures. Successful applicants will create original short work prepared for a live stream performance. Performances should include choreography that is 10 minutes or less that is inspired by the diversity of dance and participate in a short 5 minute talkback period following the performance. \nWe will prioritize collaborations between First Nations dancers and POC with other contemporary or cultural dance artists. 1 artistic project will be featured online per day during the presentation period of 1 week April 25th- May 1st 2021. All performances will be recorded and preserved for use on the Free Flow Dance Theatre company website or Youtube channel for future viewing. \nMore information can be found here. \nThank you to our 2021 Funders SaskCulture and SK Arts!

We are pleased to host this series of workshops with the support of the Community Initiative Fund\, City of Saskatoon and Sasktel. \nInternal Landscapes an Intro to Continuum Movement \nContinuum movement is a somatic practice that combines breath\, sound and subtle movements to calm and regulate the nervous system. Focused on developing capacity for internal sensations this gentle and restorative movement practice is accessible to all bodies. Continuum views the body not as a mechanical object but a living process and aims to often restrictive cultural conditioning through stimulating natural undulating movements. Somatic practices have shown to be beneficial for pain\, recovery from injury\, deep relaxation and continue to be utilized to support artists in creative practice. \nAbout the Instructor\n\n\n\nAshley Johnson is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator trained in group facilitation and hands-on bodywork as a teacher of the Mitzvah Technique/Itcush Method and Continuum Movement.   She works with diverse populations in movement re-education and injury rehabilitation to shift postural patterning and increase movement efficiency. Ashley completed a diploma in Dance from Grant MacEwan College and a BA in Dance from the University of Calgary. She trained extensively with her two primary mentors Amelia Itcush and Emilie Conrad until their passing in 2011 and 2014.  As a dance artist and educator\, Ashley creates interdisciplinary site-specific creations that blend embodiment practice with the creative process. We are pleased to host this series of workshops with the support of the Community Initiative Fund\, City of Saskatoon and Sasktel. \nEnsemble Thinking in Dance ImprovisationTechniques that entice collective thinking and spontaneous composition in dance improvisation are explored in the context of conference calls. The question is how can dancers connect in the zoom room with other dancers to spontaneously co-create meaningful group composition that reflects our current situation. Choreographic concepts such as frame\, rhythm\, originating idea and motif\, shape\, level\, and tone will be explored through the lens of the Zoom room. \nKathleen Rea danced with Canada’s Ballet Jorgen\, National Ballet of Canada & Tiroler Landestheater (Austria). She has choreographed over 40 dance works and been nominated for 5 DORA awards. Her film Lapinthrope\, co-produced with Alec Kinnear won Gold Award at the Festival Der Nationen (Austria). Kathleen is also a co-recipient of a K. M. Hunter Choreographic Award. Kathleen is a published author (“The Healing Dance”\, Charles C. Thomas). She has a Master’s in Expressive Arts. and is a teacher candidate of the Axis Syllabus. She is the director of REAson d’etre dance productions who produces both the Wednesday Dance Jam\, the Contact Dance International Film Festival and dance-theatre productions. Kathleen identifies as having High Functioning Autism and works to educate people about neuro-divercity. \nRegister now!

Dancers: Laura Turnbull\, Ilaria Zuzak.  \nFree Flow Dance Theatre is pleased to have been able to collaborate with local Metis Filmmaker Marcel Petit and composer David Bordessa on a short film showcasing the talents of our 2020 company members and special guest poet Ryan Bradshaw. \nDue to the pandemic\, Free Flow Dance Theatre was only able to book in small in-person audiences for the performances and wanted to be able to share the work with everyone. Despite the pandemic causing many changes of plans\, we are very pleased to announce that we will be presenting 3 Livestreamed performances of one of our signature pieces of choreography “Pods” for you to enjoy! “Pods” which runs approximately 20 minutes\, is one of the company’s most requested works. This visually stunning unusual performative work features a trio of dancers growing from unique costumes each encompassing its own miniature trampoline. DESCRIPTION:Dancer: Karla Kloble. \nProfessional and emerging dancers are welcome to attend the online zoom platform based Brain-Body Connection Professional Development Series hosted by Free Flow Dance Theatre free of charge. If you would like and can afford to make a donation to support the future of the company please do! We are pleased to host this series of workshops as part of our free Community Workshop Program with the support of the Community Initiatives Fund\, City of Saskatoon and Sasktel. \nKarla will be teaching August 10th\, 2:30-4 pm. Please note you must register individually for each workshop thank you. \nRegister here Workshop #2 \nWe will be taking a short break and will resume with workshops by Jackie Latendresse September 14th and 21st and Kyle Syverson on September 28th and October 5th. In addition to our popular Brain-Body Connection workshops were are currently providing free online dance workshops to Global Gathering Place\, International Women of Saskatoon\, The Sask Abilities Council and Open Door Society.
