SUMMARY:ECF Funding: Community Grant Program
DESCRIPTION:The right funding opportunity is waiting for you with ECF’s Community Grant Program — all you have to do is apply. \nAS A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION\, you have specific funding needs. We support charities in the Edmonton area across many sectors\, including: \n\nHuman Services\nArts & Culture\nEducation\nEnvironment & Animal Welfare\nHealth\nSports & Recreation\n\nThe Community Grants program can support a wide range of organizational needs. We look to organizations to determine their priority areas. If you would like to discuss your organizational needs\, start with a phone call to the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) to discuss the online application process and eligibility requirements. \nEligibility\nCommunity Grants aim to support our community. A non-profit is eligible to apply if it serves the greater Edmonton area\, including Leduc County\, Parkland County\, Strathcona County\, and Sturgeon County. The non-profit must also have a charitable registration number from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or be considered a qualified donee. \nIf you are not a registered charity but wish to apply for funding\, you can consider the following options: \n\nMake a formal application to CRA to become a registered charity.\nEstablish a written partnership with a registered charity that would apply for funds for the proposed project. CRA recommends that the relationship between the registered charity and the non-charitable organization be formalized and documented. Click here to visit CRA’s website for more details. Note that the opportunity to apply with a charitable partner is not meant to allow groups to circumvent CRA rules\, but rather to support genuine partnerships between charities and non-profits.\n\nApplying for a Community Grant\nIf you don’t have a recent relationship with us (successfully received a Community Grant in the last five years)\, your organization can apply for a grant up to approximately (see note) $50\,000. If you’ve worked with ECF recently (successful Community Grant approved\, completed and reported on)\, you can apply for a grant up to approximately (see note) $80\,000. \nNote: We will consider amounts slightly above these limits when there is a strong rationale. \nECF’s Two-Stage Process\nWe use a two-stage process that includes a preliminary online application\, followed by a full proposal\, if requested. This process is meant to assist applicants. For projects that are unlikely to receive funding for any reason\, it prevents the applicant organization from dedicating time and resources to a full proposal that will not be successful. It also allows our staff the chance to raise questions in the Request for Proposal letter\, helping to strengthen the final proposal\, which is reviewed by one of five sub-committees. \nPlease note: Attachments such as letters of support\, financial statements\, or testimonials are not required during the first stage. If we need more information\, we will contact the applicant. \nWhen to Submit\nWe encourage you to apply early! We have a continual intake of preliminary applications with quarterly deadlines depending on when funding is required. This allows us to review each on its own merit and respond promptly with questions and feedback. There are more opportunities to provide support for charities that apply early. This also gives you more time to write a strong proposal. We do not provide retroactive funding. \nThe annual deadlines to submit an online application are: \n\nMarch 1 for funding after June 1 (applications available December 2)\nJune 1 for funding  after September 1 (application available March 2)\nSeptember 1 for funding after December 1 (application available June 2)\nDecember 1 for funding  after March 1 (application available September 2)\n\nFor more information about Community Grants\, contact our staff at grants@ecfoundation.org or by phone at 780-426-0015. \nApply for a Community Grant\n\n\nGrant Application FAQ

SUMMARY:ECF Funding: Young Edmonton Grants
DESCRIPTION:Edmonton Community Foundation’s (ECF) Young Edmonton Grants (YEG) program provides local youth with funding to turn their ideas into reality. \nTHE YEG PROGRAM GIVES FUNDING for projects initiated\, led\, and organized by young Edmonton and area residents. These grants range from $500-$3\,000 and are available for residents between the ages of 13 and 24. \nIn 2016\, Todd Houseman and Ben Gorodetsky received $2\,950 from ECF to produce an Indigenous storytelling event called Stories on the Hills. The event took place at Fort Edmonton Park and featured Ben and Todd’s improv troupe Folk Lordz. They also featured other respected Indigenous storytellers\, including Elder Jerry Saddleback and Grand Chief Tony Alexis. This event had musical entertainment by Quantum Tangle and visual storytelling through painting and poetry by Lana Whiskeyjack. You can read all about Ben and Todd’s project here. \nStories on the Hills is just one example of the dozens of youth-led projects funded by ECF’s YEG program. If you have an idea or project\, we encourage you to apply! \nThe key to a successful application is “initiated and organized” by young Edmonton and area residents. This granting program is not intended to support charities or agencies that provide programming or services for youth. Instead\, it is intended to support young residents who create their own projects or initiatives. \nApplication deadlines are three times a year\, February 15 for funding after April 1\, May 15 for funding after July 1\, and October 15 for funding after December 1. Applications will be available one month before the deadline. Applicants need to partner with their school or a registered charity to support their applications. Funds\, if awarded\, will be sent to the partner charity or school. For more information on the roles and responsibilities of applicants\, partner charities and ECF within this program\, click here. \nAfter the deadline has passed and we have confirmation from your partner charity or school\, applications are reviewed by a committee of young Edmonton and area residents that recommend projects for funding. \nSome things to consider when applying: \n\nApplicants must register and activate an account to access the online application.\nApplications must be submitted before the 11:59 p.m. deadline.\nAll applications must address the information requested in the application form.\nMost kinds of activities can be funded\, as long as they are “initiated and organized” by young Edmonton and area residents (13 to 24 years).\nFunding will NOT be awarded for any projects\, programs\, or initiatives that:\n\ninvolve direct religious activity;\ninvolve partisan political activity;\nbenefit an individual (such as a scholarship);\nhave already occurred; or\ninvolve funds requested being redirected to activities beyond the Edmonton area (e.g. disaster relief in another country).\n\n\nTo receive funding\, applicants must partner with a registered Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charity (includes schools). Partner charities will be required to complete an online form\, automatically sent through the online application\, supporting the applicant’s project.\nThe partner charity must be aware of the application. For junior and senior high school students\, Edmonton Public or Catholic Schools may be willing to accept grants. A representative (Executive Director or Principal) from your partner charity must complete an online form.\nFor post-secondary institutions\, a director of student services may be the appropriate representative.\nThis is a one-time grant. Multi-year requests will not be considered.\nIt is anticipated that the number of applications will be greater than the funds that are available to disburse. Not all applications will be approved.\nAt the conclusion of the project or activity\, we expect a brief update about the initiative. This informal reporting may include:\n\na brief description of the activities;\nphotos or videos;\nnotable successes or lessons learned; and\nplans for follow-up activities (if any).\n\n\n\nAll approved grants – including the names of the charities and the names of the projects involved — will be listed in Edmonton Community Foundation’s publications (such as Legacy in Action magazine\, website\, podcast and newsletters). \nPlease note: Applications for the October 15th deadline will open by August 15th. Thanks for your patience. \nApply for a Young Edmonton Grant\n  \nGrant Application FAQ
