SUMMARY:Calgary Arts Development: Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives
DESCRIPTION:Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives\n\nDEADLINE JULY 27\, 2020 \n\n\nResults\nGuidelines\nTerms of Reference\nPolicies\n\nDeadline: July 27\, 2020\, 4:30pm MDT\nApplications Open: June 1\, 2020\nDownload Guidelines as a PDF \nProgram Overview\nThis program is intended to provide one-time project funding to individual artists and artistic collectives in Calgary working in any artistic discipline who pursue a professional practice. This program is not open to arts administrators or cultural workers. \nThis program supports projects that strengthen our artistic communities and ensures that citizens of Calgary (known as Mohkinstsis in Blackfoot) can experience what they have to offer. \nProjects may include the creation\, development\, production\, or presentation of artistic work. Applicants may also apply for mentorship\, professional or career development projects. Projects or expenses related to post-secondary\, credit or diploma granting programs and institutions are not eligible. \nThis program cannot fund projects retroactively. Projects which will be fully completed before the deadline of July 27\, 2020 are not eligible and those funded through this program should be completed by December 31\, 2021. \nApplicants may request up to $10\,000 to cover almost any expense related to their project. Total funding available for this program is $750\,000. \n \nProgram Update\nDue to COVID-19 the Project Grant Program was put on hold while the community investment team shifted focus to developing and administering short-term relief funding to the community throughout April and May. \nBased on a combination of program evaluation undertaken between January and March of 2020 through internal evaluation\, public surveys\, and feedback sessions\, along with consideration for the current circumstances surrounding the pandemic\, we have adapted this year’s Project Grant Program guidelines and process. \nKey program changes are: \n\nThe program will be assessed in one phase this year\, as opposed to the two phase process adapted in previous years. This decision was made in order to get funding out more quickly in 2020\, since the program was delayed by two months.\nThe total pool of funding available was reduced to $750\,000 from $850\,000 as $100\,000 was reallocated to short-term relief funding for individual artists.\nThe maximum request amount was reduced to $10\,000 from $15\,000 as there is such significant need in the sector at this time and we would like to see more artists supported through the program.\n\nProgram Timeline\nJanuary – March 2020: Program evaluation and design\nJune 1\, 2020: Project Grant Program applications open\nJuly 27\, 2020\, 4:30pm MDT: Application deadline\nAugust – September 2020: Assessment period\nSeptember 2020: Notification of results and funds released \n \nAccommodation and Accessibility\nCalgary Arts Development is committed to open\, fair and transparent processes. While we may not be able to meet in person at the current moment\, our team will be available to answer questions and offer support during the application process either over the phone\, through email\, or through the use of audio and video platforms. \nPlease see the program FAQs for answers to common questions\, and contact the program specialist as early as you can to ensure they can provide the best support possible. Staff can provide feedback up to one week before application deadlines. \nWe will work one-on-one with applicants who experience barriers to access to develop accommodations that suit their abilities. Some examples of accommodations are: \n\nTranslation of written materials\nGrant writing assistance\nTranscription\nVideo or audio applications\nInterpretation for phone or video meetings (note: this will depend on the availability of external service agencies)\n\nReference Documents\nFrequently Asked Questions\nBudget Template\nGroup Agreements\nFinal Report Requirements \nPlease note that Calgary Arts Development staff are continuing to work remotely. \nIf you have any questions about this program please review the Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives FAQsor contact Taylor Poitras\, Specialist\, Individuals and Collectives Programs\, at taylor.poitras@calgaryartsdevelopment.comor 403.264.5330 ext.215 through voicemail.

SUMMARY:Calgary Arts Development: Operating Grant Program
DESCRIPTION:Operating Grant Program\n\nDEADLINE JULY 6\, 2020 \n\n\nResults\nGuidelines\nTerms of Reference\nPolicies\n\nOperating Grant Increase Deadline: July 6\, 2020\, 4:30pm MDT\nApplications Open: May 25\, 2020\nDownload Guidelines as a PDF \nProgram Overview\nThe Operating Grant Program provides stable\, predictable funding to arts organizations in Calgary. Operating Grant funds may be allocated to any area of an organization’s budget and are confirmed on a yearly basis upon the receipt of an interim report until the end of 2022. \nPlease Note: Calgary Arts Development will not be offering the one-time funding program previously known as OG+ to Operating Grant clients in 2020. At this time\, no project funding program for operating grant clients are planned for 2021 or 2022. This will be reviewed annually through budget considerations with The City of Calgary. \nProgram Update\nIn recognition of the impact\, uncertainty\, instability\, and changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\, organizations will now be asked to reflect on the program criteria through the lens of their current state\, share frankly about how they have adapted their operational and programmatic approaches\, and their current plan and strategy for moving forward. \nIn the Operating Grant program\, the question of strong organizational sustainability and resiliency is one that considers an organization’s capacity to adapt and respond to its environment. Though the context in which investment decisions for the multi-year increases are being made has changed\, the intention of the investment has not. \nHow an organization understands its role in the arts sector and makes decisions demonstrates its capacity to continue contributing to a vibrant\, vital city. \nThough organizations will not be ‘punished’ for the loss of programming and revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, they will be asked to provide up-to-date financial and programming information for the current fiscal year\, as well as forecasts and plans for the future. This will allow the assessment committees to understand the current context in which organizations are making decisions and setting goals. \nThe pool for increases is now $2\,500\,000\, as $500\,000 from this program was redirected to short-term organizational relief. With that amount\, the likelihood of any organization receiving the top end of their originally published range is extremely low. However\, we believe that organizations should still be given the opportunity to make a case for strength and merit and compete for the top of their range. \nWe have expanded the potential ranges to start from the organization’s current base amount up to the top of each category range. The originally published ranges will be used as the target for grant amounts\, but this will allow greater flexibility in applying the proportional distribution formula across the top scoring to the lowest scoring organizations and recognize organizations who make the most exceptional case for increased funding. \nThis will also allow a degree of ‘one-size-fits-one’ negotiation that may be necessary to recognize the unique and unprecedented circumstances arts organizations find themselves in. For more information about the grant allocation process\, please see the Assessment Process section of the guidelines. \nWe strongly recommend that organizations plan for the low end of their category target range until final notification of this program’s results. \nApplications are accepted through the online grant interface. If this is your first time submitting an application on behalf of your organization\, please contact grants@calgaryartsdevelopment.com for assistance in getting access to your organizational profile. \nProgram Eligibility\nAt this time\, Calgary Arts Development will not be offering grants to new organizations through the Operating Grant program between 2020 and 2022\, pending budget confirmation from The City of Calgary. Only organizations who received operational funding through the Operating Grant or the Organizational Access Program in 2019 are eligible for this program. \n \nAccommodation and Accessibility\nOur team is available to answer questions and to offer support at any time during the application process. Staff can provide feedback up to one week before application deadlines. Please contact your program specialist as early as you can to ensure they can provide the best support possible. Please see the program FAQs for answers to common questions\, and contact the program specialist as early as you can to ensure they can provide the best support possible. \nCalgary Arts Development is committed to open\, fair\, and transparent processes. We will work one-on-one with applicants who experience barriers to access to develop accommodations that suit their abilities. Some examples of accommodations are: \n\nTranslation of written materials.\nInterpretation for meetings.\nGrant writing assistance.\nBraille transcription.\nVideo or audio applications.\n\nReference Documents\nInterim Reporting\nOperating Grant FAQ \nIf you have any questions about this program please review the Operating Grant FAQs or contact Marta Ligocki\, Specialist\, Arts Organizations\, at 403.264.5330 ext. 205 or marta.ligocki@calgaryartsdevelopment.com.
