SUMMARY:What’s The Score? – Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:What’s The Score? \nMZD Artistic Director Gerry Morita kicks-off 2021 with a new online course\, What’s the Score? \nOpen to all types of artists (dancers\, actors\, performance artists in particular) and anyone curious about making short pieces\, What’s the Score? – as the title indicates – is about making score-based work that uses game theory\, chance\, and specific structures for creating work. \nEach Monday a new theme is explored (with pertinent artistic examples) and students receive an assignment to then share with the class on Friday. In addition to weekly assignments this online course will engage students in group practice with dance warm ups\, community check ins\, and personal coaching. \nThe focus is interdisciplinary\, personal\, and spontaneous\, and each session is devised to help all types of artists become more comfortable with improvisation and let go of ideas of right and wrong while crafting structures for play. \nStudents can register for any of the five themed sessions. \nMondays & Fridays\, 12 to 1:30 PM – MST \nFebruary 1 & 5 (Fluxus) \nFebruary 8 & 12  (Games) \nFebruary 15 & 19  (Materiality) \nFebruary 22 & 26 (Tests) \nMarch 1 & 5 – Mail (Art) \nThis course is by donation with a suggested $15 per class to support programming. DESCRIPTION:Call for submissions\, deadline January 31 \nMZD is accepting submissions of short video works (10 minutes or less) for REELING: Dance for Screen Festival.\nREELING’s focus is to represent the best work from artists across Alberta\, Canada\, and the world who have been pushed by the 2020 pandemic to innovate the dance medium through the use of video. \nWorks could include (but are not limited to): \n\nCultural dances;\nWork from under-represented artists; and\nInterdisciplinary collaborations.\n\nUp to 25 works will be selected and presented at the festival through various online and community events\, including a big screen drive-in party and presentation. \nParticipants will receive: \n\nA feature spot in the online festival\, scheduled for May 2021;\nCredit and mention in festival promotion\, and on the MZD website; and\nAn honorarium.\n\nAll individuals are welcome to apply\, and submissions must include: \n\nThe title\, length and date of your piece;\nA 140 character elevator pitch (think original Twitter\, lol);\nA 400 word (or less) description of the project;\nA link to your film or footage (up to 10 minutes long);\nHeadshot and bio (lead artist only\, please include where you are from); and\nRelevant online links (website\, social media etc.).\n\nAll applications must be submitted through the online application form. \nInquiries about the festival may be sent to info@milezerodance.com. \nApplication deadline is January 31.

DESCRIPTION:Applications to participate are now open! Deadline to apply is January 31\, 2021.  \nWe are currently in the process of planning our International Dance Week Showcase for 2021. Inquiries and Artist Applications can be directed to freeflowdance@gmail.com. \nThe pandemic has had lasting repercussions on the live performance world. Free Flow Dance Theatre is presenting a week-long online showcase highlighting the cultural diversity of Canadian dance artists. The event will promote cross-collaboration between cultures. Successful applicants will create original short work prepared for a live stream performance. Performances should include choreography that is 10 minutes or less that is inspired by the diversity of dance and participate in a short 5 minute talkback period following the performance. \nWe will prioritize collaborations between First Nations dancers and POC with other contemporary or cultural dance artists. 1 artistic project will be featured online per day during the presentation period of 1 week April 25th- May 1st 2021.
