SUMMARY:ADA Community Workshop: How to Dance Flamenco with Live Music
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to take material taught in flamenco class and apply it to a performance or community jam situation (which is always accompanied by live music). Students rarely take their dance out of the classroom and as such do not experience the beauty\, joy and extent of the art form. This workshop bridges that gap. \nThere is currently no existing flamenco jam scene in Calgary. Through this workshop we wish to create confidence and interest in such an event. The primary goal is to understand the dialogue and communication tools used between dancers and musicians\, which is best explained through having a flamenco guitarist/singer in class themselves. Guitarist/singer Ricardo Sánchez (Mexico City) has a wonderful didactic approach and knowledge of accompaniment and has been invited to teach with us in this workshop rich with purpose and live demos. \n  \n\n\n\n\nWORKSHOP AGENDA \n\nJuly 11\, 18\, 20 Workshop Days\nJuly 24 Flamenco Community Jam (open to workshop participants and members of the Calgary Flamenco Community\, both dancers and musicians).\n\n  \nSCHEDULE \nThursday\, July 11 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreparation Phase \n6:30-8:30 pm\nEvergreen Community Spaces – dance studio\nInstructors: Fiona Malena (dance)\, Anastassiia La Musa (dance\, instructor assistant) Open Level (must have previous flamenco training).
