The company’s works are disseminated in Canada and abroad. \nOne of the few companies situated outside the major urban centers\, Sursaut ensures the presence of professional dance in its region and participates in the decentralization of arts and culture. Sherbrooke is a mid-sized city located in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec. The city is a regional hub and university center\, with an urban population of 212\,000 inhabitants. SUMMARY:ECF Funding: Community Grant Program
DESCRIPTION:The right funding opportunity is waiting for you with ECF’s Community Grant Program — all you have to do is apply. \nAS A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION\, you have specific funding needs. We support charities in the Edmonton area across many sectors\, including: \n\nHuman Services\nArts & Culture\nEducation\nEnvironment & Animal Welfare\nHealth\nSports & Recreation\n\nThe Community Grants program can support a wide range of organizational needs. We look to organizations to determine their priority areas. If you would like to discuss your organizational needs\, start with a phone call to the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) to discuss the online application process and eligibility requirements. \nEligibility\nCommunity Grants aim to support our community. A non-profit is eligible to apply if it serves the greater Edmonton area\, including Leduc County\, Parkland County\, Strathcona County\, and Sturgeon County. The non-profit must also have a charitable registration number from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or be considered a qualified donee. \nIf you are not a registered charity but wish to apply for funding\, you can consider the following options: \n\nMake a formal application to CRA to become a registered charity.\nEstablish a written partnership with a registered charity that would apply for funds for the proposed project. CRA recommends that the relationship between the registered charity and the non-charitable organization be formalized and documented. Click here to visit CRA’s website for more details. Note that the opportunity to apply with a charitable partner is not meant to allow groups to circumvent CRA rules\, but rather to support genuine partnerships between charities and non-profits.\n\nApplying for a Community Grant\nIf you don’t have a recent relationship with us (successfully received a Community Grant in the last five years)\, your organization can apply for a grant up to approximately (see note) $50\,000. If you’ve worked with ECF recently (successful Community Grant approved\, completed and reported on)\, you can apply for a grant up to approximately (see note) $80\,000. \nNote: We will consider amounts slightly above these limits when there is a strong rationale. \nECF’s Two-Stage Process\nWe use a two-stage process that includes a preliminary online application\, followed by a full proposal\, if requested. This process is meant to assist applicants. For projects that are unlikely to receive funding for any reason\, it prevents the applicant organization from dedicating time and resources to a full proposal that will not be successful. It also allows our staff the chance to raise questions in the Request for Proposal letter\, helping to strengthen the final proposal\, which is reviewed by one of five sub-committees. \nPlease note: Attachments such as letters of support\, financial statements\, or testimonials are not required during the first stage. If we need more information\, we will contact the applicant. \nWhen to Submit\nWe encourage you to apply early! We have a continual intake of preliminary applications with quarterly deadlines depending on when funding is required. This allows us to review each on its own merit and respond promptly with questions and feedback. There are more opportunities to provide support for charities that apply early. This also gives you more time to write a strong proposal. We do not provide retroactive funding. \nThe annual deadlines to submit an online application are: \n\nMarch 1 for funding after June 1 (applications available December 2)\nJune 1 for funding  after September 1 (application available March 2)\nSeptember 1 for funding after December 1 (application available June 2)\nDecember 1 for funding  after March 1 (application available September 2)\n\nFor more information about Community Grants\, contact our staff at grants@ecfoundation.org or by phone at 780-426-0015. \nApply for a Community Grant\n\n\nGrant Application FAQ

SUMMARY:2021 EAC Investment in Organizations (Sustain)
DESCRIPTION:In late October\, the Edmonton Arts Council published guidelines for two new investment streams – Sustain and Activate – programs that will direct a degree of stable and flexible funding for arts and festival organizations in 2021. The Sustain and Activate pillars are both related to investments in organizations in the short-and medium-term. Those processes are described in the document below\, including guidelines\, dates\, and requirements. \nA third stream – Invent & Adapt – will provide tools\, resources\, and potential investments to enable organizational structures\, governance and business models for the future. Guidelines for this stream are coming soon. \nThe EAC will make investments to sustain operations\, foster artistic and organizational resilience and facilitate dialogue to build organizational innovation and readiness for a gradual return to a wide range of artistic activities. \n2021 Sustain \nThe intent is to assist organizations with ongoing costs\, in particular related to engagement of artists and arts professionals. This baseline investment will help maintain organizational capacity through this irregular period. \nApplication Deadline: December 1\, 2020 \n>> Click here to download the Sustain guidelines.

SUMMARY:Participation in the Arts – Stage 3 (EAC)
DESCRIPTION:Participation in the Arts – Stage 3\nFeaturing Kim Griffin and Mathew Stone of Stone-Olafson\nWednesday\, December 2nd\, 1-2pm \nIt seems like every artist and organization in Edmonton wants to know when people will be ready to step back into in-person events and experiences. We can’t predict the future\, but since March\, Stone-Olafson have been carefully tracking Albertans’ evolving attitudes towards the pandemic. With this session\, they present their findings on the fall\, with a special focus on what this might tell us about the winter ahead. SUMMARY:It’s About Time: Dancing Black in Canada 1900-1970 and Now (Mitchell Art Gallery)
DESCRIPTION:The Mitchell Art Gallery in MacEwan University is excited to share that they are re-opening on September 15 with the launch of their latest exhibition It’s About Time: Dancing Black in Canada 1900-1970 and Now\, which will be viewable in-person and online!  \nCurated by Seika Boye\, this archival exhibition exposes the representation of Blackness on Canadian stages\, as well as audience and media reception of Black performance in Canada during this era. It’s About Time also explores legislation of leisure culture\, dance lessons and the role of social dances at mid-century. Featured are individual dance artists such as Leonard Gibson\, Ola Skanks\, Ethel Bruneau\, Joey Hollingsworth and Kathryn Brown. \nThis is the fourth presentation of the archival materials in It’s About Time. New to this iteration\, Boye has invited contemporary performing and visual artists — either from or currently based in Alberta — to respond to the archive and consider what the history of Black people dancing in Canada reveals about our contemporary moment. Not only will the exhibition feature work by dance artists Michèle Moss and Ashley “Colours” Perez\, visual artists Braxton Garneau and Preston Pavlis\, author Cheryl Foggo\, with graphic response by Adriana Contreras and photography by Mike Tan\, but there is also virtual programming planned with Seika and each artist. \nVirtual conversations with the curator to learn more about It’s About Time will take place on: \n\nSeptember 23\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Ashley “Colours” Perez and Adriana Contreras\n\n\nOctober 21\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Braxton Garneau and Preston Pavlis\n\n\nNovember 3\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Cheryl Thompson and Mpoe Mogale\n\n\nDecember 2\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Cheryl Foggo and Michèle Moss\n\n\n\nVisit macewan.ca/mitchellartgallery or @mitchellartgallery on social media for more details.

SUMMARY:What’s The Score? – Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:What’s The Score? \nMZD Artistic Director Gerry Morita kicks-off 2021 with a new online course\, What’s the Score? \nOpen to all types of artists (dancers\, actors\, performance artists in particular) and anyone curious about making short pieces\, What’s the Score? – as the title indicates – is about making score-based work that uses game theory\, chance\, and specific structures for creating work. \nEach Monday a new theme is explored (with pertinent artistic examples) and students receive an assignment to then share with the class on Friday. In addition to weekly assignments this online course will engage students in group practice with dance warm ups\, community check ins\, and personal coaching. \nThe focus is interdisciplinary\, personal\, and spontaneous\, and each session is devised to help all types of artists become more comfortable with improvisation and let go of ideas of right and wrong while crafting structures for play. \nStudents can register for any of the five themed sessions. \nMondays & Fridays\, 12 to 1:30 PM – MST \nFebruary 1 & 5 (Fluxus) \nFebruary 8 & 12  (Games) \nFebruary 15 & 19  (Materiality) \nFebruary 22 & 26 (Tests) \nMarch 1 & 5 – Mail (Art) \nThis course is by donation with a suggested $15 per class to support programming. Those unable to donate at this time are welcome to participate for free. \nPre-registration is required. \nFor more information about this course\, contact Gerry Morita at info@milezerodance.com.

SUMMARY:2021 EAC Investment in Organizations (Activate)
\n2021 Activate \nThe intent is to assist organizations with costs related to work they undertake through the engagement of artists and arts professionals. This investment will help promote organizational resilience during this irregular period. \nApplication Deadline: January 15\, 2021 (Applications will open on Fluid Review in early December) \n>> Click here to download the Activate guidelines.

From there we will explore skills for dismantling racism that utilize our mind\, body\, spirit and heart. The focus of the session will be on awareness\, skill and practice for you as individuals\, with some time to explore how this work relates to your art and the institutions you interact with. The sessions will include reflection and interactive activities. \nAbout Jackie Hogue: \nJackie is committed to community building and at the same time passionate about solving hard problems.  Jackie has been involved in community building and social change for 20 years\, 12 of which spent in non-profit management or leadership roles where she grew and shaped organizations. As a trained\, skilled facilitator\, Jackie enjoys catering to a variety of learning styles to ensure meetings\, community consultations or trainings are engaging and successful. \nJackie is Metis with Polish Settler ancestors.  Her life experiences\, both locally and internationally\, have informed her desire to use her skills to dismantle racism and oppression.  With years of experience in conflict resolution training\, Jackie enjoys finding opportunity among challenging situations\, particularly as they relate to organizational strengthening and dismantling oppression. \nJackie has collaborated with several skilled and thoughtful people to design and deliver training and support to organizations.  Additionally\, she co-designed and co-teaches a course called “Confronting Racism in the Inner City” at the University of Winnipeg. \n“Jackie’s gentle and encouraging manner facilitated a group of skeptical participants through a process that ended with action plans and accolades.” — Robin Eriksson\, CKUW Radio\, University of Winnipeg \n“We have been very fortunate and are grateful that we had Jackie facilitating our highly sensitive theme of systemic oppression. Her expertise\, coupled with a gentle delivery\, allowed the participants to feel encouraged to be vulnerable and to actively participate in a very difficult conversation. Thank you for walking with us on this difficult\, yet\, rewarding journey of self-awareness!” — Training Participant \nFor more information on Jackie and her work visit: www.jhogue.ca
