SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Fujiwara Dance Inventions: Eunoia – Brian Webb Dance Company
DESCRIPTION:Eunoia is Christian Bök’s award-winning and bestselling book of conceptual poetry. It is built on the notion of constraining language to one vowel per chapter and tells stories in ways that are as pleasurable as they are ingenious. Denise Fujiwara’s adaptation of the book is a multimedia experience of dance\, video\, music and costume that employs similar constraints in such inventive ways that it has resulted in a ground-breaking performance lauded by audiences and critics alike. \nEUNOIA takes the audience on a verbal\, visual and visceral journey. The conceit of the poem is introduced through games and then builds in complexity with fanciful narratives and semiotic play. Initially\, the audience grapples with the rich play of words and images\, and then as the performance unfolds\, they surrender to the surprises and wit that are revealed through layers of meaning in the moment. \nTickets are $40 or $25 for Seniors (65+) & Students\, plus applicable fees. \nThis event requires physical tickets. Please select your desired shipping method at checkout. No electronic tickets provided.

SUMMARY:Calgary Arts Development: Operating Grant Program
DESCRIPTION:Operating Grant Program\n\nDEADLINE JULY 6\, 2020 \n\n\nResults\nGuidelines\nTerms of Reference\nPolicies\n\nOperating Grant Increase Deadline: July 6\, 2020\, 4:30pm MDT\nApplications Open: May 25\, 2020\nDownload Guidelines as a PDF \nProgram Overview\nThe Operating Grant Program provides stable\, predictable funding to arts organizations in Calgary. Operating Grant funds may be allocated to any area of an organization’s budget and are confirmed on a yearly basis upon the receipt of an interim report until the end of 2022. \nPlease Note: Calgary Arts Development will not be offering the one-time funding program previously known as OG+ to Operating Grant clients in 2020. At this time\, no project funding program for operating grant clients are planned for 2021 or 2022. This will be reviewed annually through budget considerations with The City of Calgary. \nProgram Update\nIn recognition of the impact\, uncertainty\, instability\, and changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic\, organizations will now be asked to reflect on the program criteria through the lens of their current state\, share frankly about how they have adapted their operational and programmatic approaches\, and their current plan and strategy for moving forward. \nIn the Operating Grant program\, the question of strong organizational sustainability and resiliency is one that considers an organization’s capacity to adapt and respond to its environment. Though the context in which investment decisions for the multi-year increases are being made has changed\, the intention of the investment has not. \nHow an organization understands its role in the arts sector and makes decisions demonstrates its capacity to continue contributing to a vibrant\, vital city. \nThough organizations will not be ‘punished’ for the loss of programming and revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, they will be asked to provide up-to-date financial and programming information for the current fiscal year\, as well as forecasts and plans for the future. This will allow the assessment committees to understand the current context in which organizations are making decisions and setting goals. \nThe pool for increases is now $2\,500\,000\, as $500\,000 from this program was redirected to short-term organizational relief. With that amount\, the likelihood of any organization receiving the top end of their originally published range is extremely low. However\, we believe that organizations should still be given the opportunity to make a case for strength and merit and compete for the top of their range. \nWe have expanded the potential ranges to start from the organization’s current base amount up to the top of each category range. The originally published ranges will be used as the target for grant amounts\, but this will allow greater flexibility in applying the proportional distribution formula across the top scoring to the lowest scoring organizations and recognize organizations who make the most exceptional case for increased funding. \nThis will also allow a degree of ‘one-size-fits-one’ negotiation that may be necessary to recognize the unique and unprecedented circumstances arts organizations find themselves in. For more information about the grant allocation process\, please see the Assessment Process section of the guidelines. \nWe strongly recommend that organizations plan for the low end of their category target range until final notification of this program’s results. \nApplications are accepted through the online grant interface. If this is your first time submitting an application on behalf of your organization\, please contact grants@calgaryartsdevelopment.com for assistance in getting access to your organizational profile. \nProgram Eligibility\nAt this time\, Calgary Arts Development will not be offering grants to new organizations through the Operating Grant program between 2020 and 2022\, pending budget confirmation from The City of Calgary. Only organizations who received operational funding through the Operating Grant or the Organizational Access Program in 2019 are eligible for this program. \n \nAccommodation and Accessibility\nOur team is available to answer questions and to offer support at any time during the application process. Staff can provide feedback up to one week before application deadlines. Please contact your program specialist as early as you can to ensure they can provide the best support possible. Please see the program FAQs for answers to common questions\, and contact the program specialist as early as you can to ensure they can provide the best support possible. \nCalgary Arts Development is committed to open\, fair\, and transparent processes. We will work one-on-one with applicants who experience barriers to access to develop accommodations that suit their abilities. Some examples of accommodations are: \n\nTranslation of written materials.\nInterpretation for meetings.\nGrant writing assistance.\nBraille transcription.\nVideo or audio applications.\n\nReference Documents\nInterim Reporting\nOperating Grant FAQ \nIf you have any questions about this program please review the Operating Grant FAQs or contact Marta Ligocki\, Specialist\, Arts Organizations\, at 403.264.5330 ext. 205 or marta.ligocki@calgaryartsdevelopment.com.

SUMMARY:Calgary Arts Development: Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives
DESCRIPTION:Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives\n\nDEADLINE JULY 27\, 2020 \n\n\nResults\nGuidelines\nTerms of Reference\nPolicies\n\nDeadline: July 27\, 2020\, 4:30pm MDT\nApplications Open: June 1\, 2020\nDownload Guidelines as a PDF \nProgram Overview\nThis program is intended to provide one-time project funding to individual artists and artistic collectives in Calgary working in any artistic discipline who pursue a professional practice. This program is not open to arts administrators or cultural workers. \nThis program supports projects that strengthen our artistic communities and ensures that citizens of Calgary (known as Mohkinstsis in Blackfoot) can experience what they have to offer. \nProjects may include the creation\, development\, production\, or presentation of artistic work. Applicants may also apply for mentorship\, professional or career development projects. Projects or expenses related to post-secondary\, credit or diploma granting programs and institutions are not eligible. \nThis program cannot fund projects retroactively. Projects which will be fully completed before the deadline of July 27\, 2020 are not eligible and those funded through this program should be completed by December 31\, 2021. \nApplicants may request up to $10\,000 to cover almost any expense related to their project. Total funding available for this program is $750\,000. \n \nProgram Update\nDue to COVID-19 the Project Grant Program was put on hold while the community investment team shifted focus to developing and administering short-term relief funding to the community throughout April and May. \nBased on a combination of program evaluation undertaken between January and March of 2020 through internal evaluation\, public surveys\, and feedback sessions\, along with consideration for the current circumstances surrounding the pandemic\, we have adapted this year’s Project Grant Program guidelines and process. \nKey program changes are: \n\nThe program will be assessed in one phase this year\, as opposed to the two phase process adapted in previous years. This decision was made in order to get funding out more quickly in 2020\, since the program was delayed by two months.\nThe total pool of funding available was reduced to $750\,000 from $850\,000 as $100\,000 was reallocated to short-term relief funding for individual artists.\nThe maximum request amount was reduced to $10\,000 from $15\,000 as there is such significant need in the sector at this time and we would like to see more artists supported through the program.\n\nProgram Timeline\nJanuary – March 2020: Program evaluation and design\nJune 1\, 2020: Project Grant Program applications open\nJuly 27\, 2020\, 4:30pm MDT: Application deadline\nAugust – September 2020: Assessment period\nSeptember 2020: Notification of results and funds released \n \nAccommodation and Accessibility\nCalgary Arts Development is committed to open\, fair and transparent processes. While we may not be able to meet in person at the current moment\, our team will be available to answer questions and offer support during the application process either over the phone\, through email\, or through the use of audio and video platforms. \nPlease see the program FAQs for answers to common questions\, and contact the program specialist as early as you can to ensure they can provide the best support possible. Staff can provide feedback up to one week before application deadlines. \nWe will work one-on-one with applicants who experience barriers to access to develop accommodations that suit their abilities. Some examples of accommodations are: \n\nTranslation of written materials\nGrant writing assistance\nTranscription\nVideo or audio applications\nInterpretation for phone or video meetings (note: this will depend on the availability of external service agencies)\n\nReference Documents\nFrequently Asked Questions\nBudget Template\nGroup Agreements\nFinal Report Requirements \nPlease note that Calgary Arts Development staff are continuing to work remotely. \nIf you have any questions about this program please review the Project Grant Program – Individuals and Collectives FAQsor contact Taylor Poitras\, Specialist\, Individuals and Collectives Programs\, at taylor.poitras@calgaryartsdevelopment.comor 403.264.5330 ext.215 through voicemail.

SUMMARY:Kaeja d'Dance: Porch View Dances 2020 (Online!)
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, PVD pairs professional choreographers with community members to reveal stories of lives lived through original dances performed on their front porches and yards.\n\nFor 2020\, we have invited all of our past Porch View Dances choreographers to bring their own personal stories alive on their porches\, balconies\, and front yards. You are guaranteed an intimate view of who these brilliant artists are\, as they unearth and capture this moment in time with their families and co-habitants.\n\nThere will also be a special spotlight on father/son duo Jim & Owen Adams who have been part of the PVD family for the past three years!\n\nThe livestreamed premiere of these works will be hosted by the one and only Maurycy and will be followed by a live interactive Flock Landing\, led by the fabulous Lilia Leon\, that you are invited to witness or to Dance With Us! Lilia will be joined by Mateo Galindo Torres\, Josh Murphy\, Mio Sakamoto and Irma Villafuerte.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Kaeja d’Dance for an online iteration of PVD. This livestream will premiere 16 NEW commissions – short dance videos made by some of this community’s amazing choreographers\, an audience-participatory Flock Landing and a Q & A!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChoreographers commissioned for PVD 2020 – Online:\nKate Alton\, Julia Aplin\, Nova Bhattacharya\, Barbara Bourget & Jay Hirabayashi\, Michael Caldwell & Louis Laberge-Côté\, Peter Chin\, Lauren Cook\, Allison Cummings\, Aria Evans\, Maxine Heppner\, Shannon Litzenberger\, Pulga Muchochoma\, Andrea Nann\, Yvonne Ng\, Kevin Ormsby\, Kathleen Rea.\n\nPorch View Dances was conceived by Karen Kaeja and developed with Allen Kaeja.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGET YOUR TICKETS!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA note from Karen Kaeja (creator of Porch View Dances):\n\nI am constantly pairing inspiration and intention. The pandemic has blasted open our imaginations of what Porch View Dances could become this year. After weaving our way through many ideas since lockdown\, we’ve landed on what we are really excited about and remains at the heart of PVD. Connection\, love\, community\, and everyday life with ‘real people dancing in real spaces’ are still all at the centre of this years PVD. Our PVD2020: Online integrates the brilliance of all our past and present PVD choreographers in Toronto and Etobicoke from over our 9 years. We are commissioning 2-minute videos from our choreographers\, to create intimate portraits with their family members or those they live with\, out into the world on their porches and front yards. They’ll be bringing the story they are inhabiting at this time out into the world\, some on porches and others in spaces of importance in their homes. We’ll have a live online Flock Landing with 5 dancers as well that we invite you to join if you wish in the comfort of wherever you are. We’ll also have an audience/artist Q and A that you are welcome to stay online for at the end.\n\nReally looking forward to these commissioned GEMS highlighting so many of Toronto’s incredible dance artist’s inspirational lives.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Dancers' Studio West: The Quick + Dirty Festival
DESCRIPTION:Our 40th anniversary year has been full of shifts and surprises\, and this time we have a surprise! Dancers’ Studio West is pleased to launch the first ever Quick + Dirty Film Festival! \nAs a measured response to the quarantine restrictions we are living with\, we have redirected the resources for our Creative Intensive and Quick + Dirty Festival to create a pilot program with a dance on screen focus. Q+D 2020 artists Meghann Michalsky\, Jocelyn Mah\, Nicole Charlton Goodbrand\, Jeannie Vandekerkhove\, and Marynia Fekecz have re-conceived their original proposals and\, with the mentorship of Linnea Swan and Jacob Niedzwiecki\, will create short dance films for the small screen! We feel deeply blessed and excited to have Jacob and Linnea as guest mentors. \nDance on screen is about much\, much more than just putting dance on a screen. Each artist in the program has been challenged to shift their perspective and sensibilities as artists whose bodies of work primarily focus on the live space. \nThe Quick + Dirty Film Festival is a PWYC\, on-demand online event from July 31st – August 15th 2020. \nSign up via Eventbrite to receive the link and instructions for your dance film experience. \nWhat this transition to the virtual world holds… you’ll have to see for yourself! \nWith love\, popcorn\, and a glass of wine\,\nDancers’ Studio West

SUMMARY:AB Dance Relaunch: Implementing the Provincial Recommendations (Zoom® Meeting)
DESCRIPTION:Community members have been sharing with us their plans for relaunching in the fall and others have been wondering what that ought to look like. We are going to open the floor for sharing ideas\, pivoting strategies\, anxieties\, and largely clarifying how members of Alberta’s dance community are implementing the provincial guidelines for relaunch in addition to what they feel is necessary for their particular practice or environment/venue. On Friday\, July 31st from 1-3 p.m.\, join us for a community discussion around relaunching dance in Alberta. Click here for more information and to register! \n\n\nThe Questions:\n\n• What has the process been for you or your organization to “stay working” for relaunch\, including policy/process\, budget\, and contracts?\n\n• How are you anticipating adjusted timelines for rehearsals and/or performances?\n\n• What barriers or course corrections have you experienced with implementing your relaunch\, balancing provincial guidelines with your community’s habits/concerns?\n\n• Are you preparing for a second wave of economic shutdown and another relaunch? (How would you hope to improve upon this first cycle of shutdown and relaunch?)\n\n\n\n\nAGENDA\n\n1:00 p.m. MDT – Welcome and introduction from Bobbi Westman and Nicholas Mayne (ADA)\n 1:10 p.m. MDT – Response from our guests about their relaunch experiences (suggested order):\n\nCheryl Ewing (and Possibly Cliff Le Jeune) (Dance Nova Scotia\, Halifax) (Cheryl can join us for an hour only)\nNatalie & James Gnam (Left of Main\, Vancouver)\nClaire French (Membership/Outreach Coordinator: The Dance Centre\, Vancouver)\nJoanne Baker (Dance School Principal/Arts-In-Education Coordinator: Decidedly Jazz Danceworks\, Calgary)\n\n\n2:00 p.m. MDT – Questions and discussion from the floor\, with remaining time until 3 p.m. MDT at the latest\, facilitated by Bobbi and Nicholas.\n3:00 p.m. MDT – Meeting Ends\n\nIn addition to the Alberta Guidelines for Dance\, when considering the relaunching your season\, use the excellent Experience Economy Study to help guide your considerations and process. Click on the links for information specific to All of Alberta\, Edmonton and area\, and for Calgary and area. Additionally\, we would like to share the following announcement directly from CADA/West of another essential reference resource at this time: \n“CADA/West and the Canadian Dance Assembly worked together to create an English version of the Informal Survey for Dance Artists on Conditions for Reopening Studio Activities conducted by Montreal’s Les Réservoirs with the collaboration of Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique. Please take a look at the document and let [CADA/West] know what you think via email.” \n  \nA session for sharing how Alberta’s individuals and organizations in dance (for-profit and non-profit) are taking responsibility for meeting the relaunch guidelines set out by the Alberta government: https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/covid-19-information-guidance-for-live-music-dance-and-theatre \nPlease join us if you are interested in contributing your ideas and questions about how the relaunch of dance (in its many forms and environments) in Alberta ought to look under the provincial guidelines. \nThe information from the government is intentionally sparse and general so that citizens can meet the guidelines in a way that fits their practice and environment. The Alberta Dance Alliance recognizes that this lack of specificity has created some anxiety and uncertainty in our community. Therefore\, we are offering this community Zoom® meeting as a safe place for people to hear and to share with others the choices that members of our community are making to protect themselves and others if they’ve decided to return to work. \nPlease register in advance\, so we can tailor the experience to those who are planning on attending. Please inform us if you would like to join but are experiencing accessibility barriers to this community discussion and we will do our best to accommodate you.
