SUMMARY:What’s The Score? – Workshop Series
DESCRIPTION:What’s The Score? \nMZD Artistic Director Gerry Morita kicks-off 2021 with a new online course\, What’s the Score? \nOpen to all types of artists (dancers\, actors\, performance artists in particular) and anyone curious about making short pieces\, What’s the Score? – as the title indicates – is about making score-based work that uses game theory\, chance\, and specific structures for creating work. \nEach Monday a new theme is explored (with pertinent artistic examples) and students receive an assignment to then share with the class on Friday. In addition to weekly assignments this online course will engage students in group practice with dance warm ups\, community check ins\, and personal coaching. \nThe focus is interdisciplinary\, personal\, and spontaneous\, and each session is devised to help all types of artists become more comfortable with improvisation and let go of ideas of right and wrong while crafting structures for play. \nStudents can register for any of the five themed sessions. \nMondays & Fridays\, 12 to 1:30 PM – MST \nFebruary 1 & 5 (Fluxus) \nFebruary 8 & 12  (Games) \nFebruary 15 & 19  (Materiality) \nFebruary 22 & 26 (Tests) \nMarch 1 & 5 – Mail (Art) \nThis course is by donation with a suggested $15 per class to support programming. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Reggaeton class ONLINE every Wednesday 6-7pm! DESCRIPTION:Are you someone working in the arts or the hospitality industry who is looking for creative ways to collaborate amid the COVID-19 pandemic and plan for future recovery? Are you interested in conversations exploring the live experience economy and how to get audiences out and artists back to work in safe and meaningful ways? \nRISE UP Calgary is a local initiative created to kick start economic recovery for Calgary’s arts sector. It is an open-source campaign that unites arts\, hospitality\, and tourism partners to develop a comprehensive array of initiatives and plans for relaunch by building the best possible conditions for success for audiences and artists. Together\, we will RISE UP and move forward. \nAs part of its programming\, it is hosting a series of relaunch lunches to connect industry professionals and give them an opportunity to network\, share ideas\, and look for ways to collaborate on COVID recovery planning. \nRISE UP Relaunch Lunch #6\nMarch 4\, 2021\, 12:00pm\nRegister at zoom.us \nThe next event features a discussion around hotel spaces and how artists and hoteliers can work together to activate these spaces. DESCRIPTION:Over the past year\, our dance community has encountered shifts\, shutdowns\, pivots\, opportunities\, and losses. With these changes\, and an uncertain future for many artists and businesses\, mental health and well-being are at the forefront of our conversations. \nOpen to all Alberta dancers and educators! \nJoin us on Friday\, March 5th at 9am MST via Zoom for Moving with Mental Health. \nMental skills educator\, Lauren Ritchie\, will facilitate an interactive discussion and Q&A session with renowned dance councillors\, Terry Hyde (MA\, MBACP) and Natalka Lewis (MA Counselling Psychology\, BA Dance). \nFacilitator Lauren Ritchie is a mental skills trainer and dance educator from Calgary. Terry Hyde is a psychotherapist/counsellor and retired professional dancer from the UK. Natalka Lewis is a professional dancer from Calgary and founder of Luminare Dance Company. All are extremely passionate about mental wellness for the artform of dance. \nWe will talk about: \n\nMental health symptoms\nHealthy mental practices\nAnxiety & Stress\nResilience\n\nBut\, most importantly\, we want to talk about what feels important and helpful to you as you navigate your mental health. \nRegister for this free online event by emailing info@abdancealliance.ab.ca.
