DESCRIPTION:Anti-Racism Virtual Town Halls\n\n\nAs an organization\, Calgary Arts Development has committed ourselves to bettering our systems regarding equity\, diversity\, inclusion\, and accessibility (EDIA). \nTo continue the conversation about the deep-seated racism that exists within our communities and systems\, and how we can further develop anti-racist policies and practices governing our work\, we have scheduled anti-racism virtual town hall gatherings for every other Wednesday in July and August. The purpose of the gatherings is to host deeper conversations that will lead to possible actions and decisions as we deal with current inequities in the sector and work with a broader community toward positive action. \nThe anti-racism virtual town halls will take place on Wednesdays\, July 15; July 29; August 12; and August 26\, 2020 from 3:00 to 4:30pm MDT. \nThe virtual town halls will take place through Zoom and will be interpreted in American Sign Language (ASL) with a live transcription available. SUMMARY:Kaeja d'Dance: Porch View Dances 2020 (Online!)
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, PVD pairs professional choreographers with community members to reveal stories of lives lived through original dances performed on their front porches and yards.\n\nFor 2020\, we have invited all of our past Porch View Dances choreographers to bring their own personal stories alive on their porches\, balconies\, and front yards. You are guaranteed an intimate view of who these brilliant artists are\, as they unearth and capture this moment in time with their families and co-habitants.\n\nThere will also be a special spotlight on father/son duo Jim & Owen Adams who have been part of the PVD family for the past three years!\n​\nThe livestreamed premiere of these works will be hosted by the one and only Maurycy and will be followed by a live interactive Flock Landing\, led by the fabulous Lilia Leon\, that you are invited to witness or to Dance With Us! Lilia will be joined by Mateo Galindo Torres\, Josh Murphy\, Mio Sakamoto and Irma Villafuerte.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Kaeja d’Dance for an online iteration of PVD. The pandemic has blasted open our imaginations of what Porch View Dances could become this year. After weaving our way through many ideas since lockdown\, we’ve landed on what we are really excited about and remains at the heart of PVD. Connection\, love\, community\, and everyday life with ‘real people dancing in real spaces’ are still all at the centre of this years PVD. Our PVD2020: Online integrates the brilliance of all our past and present PVD choreographers in Toronto and Etobicoke from over our 9 years. We are commissioning 2-minute videos from our choreographers\, to create intimate portraits with their family members or those they live with\, out into the world on their porches and front yards. They’ll be bringing the story they are inhabiting at this time out into the world\, some on porches and others in spaces of importance in their homes. We’ll have a live online Flock Landing with 5 dancers as well that we invite you to join if you wish in the comfort of wherever you are. SUMMARY:AB Dance Relaunch: Implementing the Provincial Recommendations (Zoom® Meeting)
DESCRIPTION:Community members have been sharing with us their plans for relaunching in the fall and others have been wondering what that ought to look like. We are going to open the floor for sharing ideas\, pivoting strategies\, anxieties\, and largely clarifying how members of Alberta’s dance community are implementing the provincial guidelines for relaunch in addition to what they feel is necessary for their particular practice or environment/venue. On Friday\, July 31st from 1-3 p.m.\, join us for a community discussion around relaunching dance in Alberta. Click here for more information and to register! \n\n\nThe Questions:\n\n• What has the process been for you or your organization to “stay working” for relaunch\, including policy/process\, budget\, and contracts?\n\n• How are you anticipating adjusted timelines for rehearsals and/or performances?\n\n• What barriers or course corrections have you experienced with implementing your relaunch\, balancing provincial guidelines with your community’s habits/concerns?\n\n• Are you preparing for a second wave of economic shutdown and another relaunch? Please take a look at the document and let [CADA/West] know what you think via email.” \n  \nA session for sharing how Alberta’s individuals and organizations in dance (for-profit and non-profit) are taking responsibility for meeting the relaunch guidelines set out by the Alberta government: https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/covid-19-information-guidance-for-live-music-dance-and-theatre \nPlease join us if you are interested in contributing your ideas and questions about how the relaunch of dance (in its many forms and environments) in Alberta ought to look under the provincial guidelines. \nThe information from the government is intentionally sparse and general so that citizens can meet the guidelines in a way that fits their practice and environment. The Alberta Dance Alliance recognizes that this lack of specificity has created some anxiety and uncertainty in our community. Therefore\, we are offering this community Zoom® meeting as a safe place for people to hear and to share with others the choices that members of our community are making to protect themselves and others if they’ve decided to return to work. \nPlease register in advance\, so we can tailor the experience to those who are planning on attending.
