SUMMARY:PLACE/is a city written on this body?
DESCRIPTION:Rosanna Terracciano experiments within and around the boundaries of flamenco\, dance\, contemporary performance and short film\, driven by an urgency to expose the vulnerable and introverted aspects of flamenco dance. Her solo performance works and short films have been presented throughout Canada and Europe\, and in 2019\, she collaborated with Spain’s Juan Carlos Lérida in residencies and performances at the Dusseldorf Flamenco Festival and Barcelona’s Mercat de les Flors\, In 2018\, she created the ongoing online short film project\, a quiet flamenco. She is Associate Artist at Dancers’ Studio West for the 2020-2022 seasons and is the 2017 recipient of the Jacqueline Lemieux Prize for dance from the Canada Council for the Arts. \nA short film adaptation of a performance trilogy of cities with significant professional and personal impact — Napoli (the city from which my parents immigrated to Calgary in the 1960s)\, Calgary (the city where I was born and raised) and Sevilla (a city with longstanding impact on the foundation of my flamenco). \nNow playing at fluidfest.com until November 10\, 2020.  \nWatch now!

SUMMARY:‘the prime of my life’ (Mile Zero Dance)
DESCRIPTION:This work explores the relationship between live performance and live-streamed performance – a  multidisciplinary installation with three live performances\, with each one building off the last. \nAll shows are free and can be watched from the sidewalk in front of MZD (10816–95 ST | Edmonton\, AB) or lived streamed below on: \n\nNovember 8 – 6PM MDT\nNovember 15 – 6 PM MDT\nNovember 22 – 6PM MDT\n\nAbout the Artist\nHannah Quimper-Swiderski (she/they) is an artist from Edmonton-Amiskwaciwâskahikan\, Alberta. Working primarily with video\, performance and photography\, Hannah’s work explore concepts of gender performativity\, identity and the body as a contextually loaded form. She often performs as characters\, exploring her own identity through personas and visual identities found within b-movies\, late night television\, and advertising. \nHannah has shown work in venues such as the Edmonton International Film Festival\, the Art Gallery of Alberta\, Latitude 53\, and Mile Zero Dance. She also has a background in theatre\, having been raised in the community theatre scene in rural Alberta and trained at the Foote Theatre School in Edmonton and Second City in Toronto. Hannah previously went to film school with the intention of working as a cinematographer before completing her BFA at the University of Alberta in 2019. \nArtist Statement\nWithin my practice I explore concepts of gender performativity\, identity and the body as a contextually loaded form. Within my video\, photo and performance work\, I often perform as characters\, exploring my own identity through personas and visual identities found within b-movies\, late night television\, and advertising. These range from the otherworldly (magicians\, clowns) to the archetypal (cowgirls\, news anchors\, movie stars). I am drawn to the behind-the-scenes\, often referencing the film set itself\, focusing on the constructed nature of the characters and their worlds. Through this re-presentation of reality\, I aim to reveal the uncanny within the real. \nLately\, my work has become more personal\, reflecting my own experiences growing up as a queer person in small-town Alberta. Through combinations of live performance and video\, I am exploring my complicated relationship with my own identity\, and playing with performance within real and constructed spaces.
