Hogue & Associates. \nAbout the Workshop: \nDuring our time together we will deepen our understanding around how systemic racism operates and how it is supported. From there we will explore skills for dismantling racism that utilize our mind\, body\, spirit and heart. The focus of the session will be on awareness\, skill and practice for you as individuals\, with some time to explore how this work relates to your art and the institutions you interact with. The sessions will include reflection and interactive activities. \nAbout Jackie Hogue: \nJackie is committed to community building and at the same time passionate about solving hard problems.  Jackie has been involved in community building and social change for 20 years\, 12 of which spent in non-profit management or leadership roles where she grew and shaped organizations. As a trained\, skilled facilitator\, Jackie enjoys catering to a variety of learning styles to ensure meetings\, community consultations or trainings are engaging and successful. \nJackie is Metis with Polish Settler ancestors.  Her life experiences\, both locally and internationally\, have informed her desire to use her skills to dismantle racism and oppression.  With years of experience in conflict resolution training\, Jackie enjoys finding opportunity among challenging situations\, particularly as they relate to organizational strengthening and dismantling oppression. \nJackie has collaborated with several skilled and thoughtful people to design and deliver training and support to organizations.  Additionally\, she co-designed and co-teaches a course called “Confronting Racism in the Inner City” at the University of Winnipeg. \n“Jackie’s gentle and encouraging manner facilitated a group of skeptical participants through a process that ended with action plans and accolades.” — Robin Eriksson\, CKUW Radio\, University of Winnipeg \n“We have been very fortunate and are grateful that we had Jackie facilitating our highly sensitive theme of systemic oppression. Her expertise\, coupled with a gentle delivery\, allowed the participants to feel encouraged to be vulnerable and to actively participate in a very difficult conversation. Thank you for walking with us on this difficult\, yet\, rewarding journey of self-awareness!” — Training Participant \nFor more information on Jackie and her work visit: www.jhogue.ca

SUMMARY:Thinking Body Fall 2020 Online Session #2
DESCRIPTION:Please see below for more information about these sessions from instructor Isabelle Rousseau. \nI am excited to announce the Fall Session for Thinking Body online classes. \nAs some of you know\, I’ve been developing a more personal approach to the practice of the Syntonics created by Judith Koltaï\, whose own teaching stems from Thérèse Bertherat\, Françoise Mézières\, Charlotte Selver and Elsa Gindler. \nIn this class\, you will be introduced to getting feedback from your own body and letting itself rebalance through the use of “test positions” sustained in slow\, anatomically optimal positions. This accessible practice is self-regulating on the nervous system and also readily available to all. We will also spend time studying the minutiae of posture and movement coordination\, and get familiar with ways to expand range of motion with sensory input as we become more intimate with our skeleton and its properties. \nThe class is injury-free and can be practiced by all as a “prequel” to any health and training protocol\, no matter where you are on your journey to a deeper relationship to your whole self. I look forward to working with you in class. \nClasses will run from November 3rd to December 8th 2020. Classes are twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm to 6 pm MT via Zoom. \nRegistration fees are $110 for 12 classes (recorded classes available if needed). \nTo register\, please send a message to me at this address: irousseau.moveandbemoved@gmail.com

SUMMARY:It’s About Time: Dancing Black in Canada 1900-1970 and Now (Mitchell Art Gallery)
DESCRIPTION:The Mitchell Art Gallery in MacEwan University is excited to share that they are re-opening on September 15 with the launch of their latest exhibition It’s About Time: Dancing Black in Canada 1900-1970 and Now\, which will be viewable in-person and online!  \nCurated by Seika Boye\, this archival exhibition exposes the representation of Blackness on Canadian stages\, as well as audience and media reception of Black performance in Canada during this era. It’s About Time also explores legislation of leisure culture\, dance lessons and the role of social dances at mid-century. New to this iteration\, Boye has invited contemporary performing and visual artists — either from or currently based in Alberta — to respond to the archive and consider what the history of Black people dancing in Canada reveals about our contemporary moment. Not only will the exhibition feature work by dance artists Michèle Moss and Ashley “Colours” Perez\, visual artists Braxton Garneau and Preston Pavlis\, author Cheryl Foggo\, with graphic response by Adriana Contreras and photography by Mike Tan\, but there is also virtual programming planned with Seika and each artist. \nVirtual conversations with the curator to learn more about It’s About Time will take place on: \n\nSeptember 23\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Ashley “Colours” Perez and Adriana Contreras\n\n\nOctober 21\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Braxton Garneau and Preston Pavlis\n\n\nNovember 3\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Cheryl Thompson and Mpoe Mogale\n\n\nDecember 2\, 2020 at 6 p.m.\n\nwith Cheryl Foggo and Michèle Moss\n\n\n\nVisit macewan.ca/mitchellartgallery or @mitchellartgallery on social media for more details.

SUMMARY:Oderin (NAC)
DESCRIPTION:Oderin is a new dance theatre creation based on a collection of poems by NL poet Agnes Walsh (Oderin\, Pedlar Press 2018). These exquisite poems depict Walsh’s mother’s difficult life growing up in Placentia\, Newfoundland\, then her later decline living with dementia. A tender and raw account of a personal mother – daughter relationship\, this work brings rich and complex human experiences to life through an provocative multidisciplinary collaborative lens. “These poems present a unique opportunity to put all my learning over 45 years of play-making as actor\, director and teacher into the challenge of staging these poems. Oderin explores one’s sense of duty and devotion\, the experience of resettlement\, nostalgia\, family\, landscape\, the loss of memory and self\, dementia and death […] ” – C. Tomlinson \nThis is one of two live streams taking place as part of partnership between Neighbourhood Dance Works (NDW) and NAC Dance through #DanceForth. #DanceForth is the new NAC Dance livestream project. Most Thursday evenings\, live performances will be presented by a variety of wonderful Canadian dance artists\, both from the NAC Fourth Stage and from various centres across the country. \nChoreographers and dancers with a terrific range of styles will be sharing with you directly through this series that embraces a new model to celebrate this rich and dynamic art form. Please tune in with us to discover the breadth and talent of Canada’s outstanding dance milieu. \nThis performance will be live streamed from the historic LSPU hall on November 26 at 7pm NT (3:30pm MT).  \nLearn more.
