We accept a wide selection of work\, including dance\, theatre\, interdisciplinary\, and more! \n  \nAre you an artist with exciting new or existing work just waiting to be shared? The IGNITE! Festival of Emerging Artists is returning\, and we want to help artists share their engaging and unique art with our community! \nEvery year in June\, Sage Theatre presents the IGNITE! Festival of Emerging Artists – a  multi-disciplinary\, 4-day festival of emerging art and artists. It’s big\, it’s bold\, it’s beautiful! With about 100 artists programmed each year\, IGNITE! is a fantastic development\, networking\, and presentation opportunity for Calgary’s artists. The 2021 festival runs June 16 – 19\, 2021. \nIGNITE! is a festival dedicated to supporting\, mentoring and presenting early career artists of all disciplines. If auditionees are not quite ready for Shumka\, they may be suggested for Shumka’s junior performing ensemble\, Studia Shumka. \n  \n\nFOR AUDITION INFORMATION & TO EMAIL YOUR AUDITION VIDEO PLEASE CONTACT: alyssa.eugenio@shumka.com \nDue to COVID-19 restrictions and for the safety of our team and interested auditionees\, Shumka 2021 Auditions will be a two-step process. After you have completed the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM\, please do the following. \nA: VIDEO \nPlease send in a video that includes the following elements. Don’t worry about production quality – as long as we can see you clearly. \nBarre (1 side only) \n– Plies \n– Tendus & Glisses \n– Adage (developpe or fondu) \n– Grands Battements \nYou may choose to show exercises you are familiar with or you may choose exercises from this video:  https://vimeo.com/407625720/895cc3a25b \n  \nFlexibility \nPlease show us how flexible you are by demonstrating the following stretches: \n– Hamstring stretch \n– Sitting in 2nd position on the floor (straddle stretch) \n– Splits (centre\, left and right) \n  \nCentre Work \n– Girls: up to 32 Obertas (left and right) and another turning combination of your choice \n– Boys: Show us some prysiadky\, cabrioles and double tours \n  \nChoreography & Special Tricks \n-Include a couple of examples of you dancing with your group or performing a solo/duet/small group. Please explain\, with appropriate detail\, where we can locate you in the choreography. You may also include a video of you performing any tricks/features you are able to showcase. \nDEADLINE MONDAY APRIL 12\, 2021 \nIN-PERSON SESSION \nDancers who successfully pass the VIDEO stage of the audition will be contacted and booked for an individual in-person audition session to take place at the Shumka Dance Centre. COVID-19 safety protocols will be strictly followed. Audition dates/times will be mutually agreed upon by the auditionee and Shumka Artistic Team.

Who We Are\nThe International Dance Organization (IDO) is a non-profit World Dance-and-Dancesport Federation consisting of over 90 member and contact nations\, representing more than 500\,000 dancers from SIX CONTINENTS. This year\, the IDO will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary! Member: IDO-Canada (Dance and Dancesport) compete under the name Team Canada Dance. We have been the IDO Member Representative for Canadian dancers attending the World Championships since the 90’s! teamcanadadance.ca \nII. Mandate\nTo bring all dancers and organizations together from around the world through friendly competition\, while displaying good sportsmanship and fostering goodwill among the dancers through all organizations worldwide. \nIII. Who is Eligible?\nIDO is offering this exciting world dance event as an ‘INTERNATIONAL OPEN’\, meaning this World Continental Championship is open to all dancers around the world. GENERAL INFORMATION P A G E 3 / 1 1 \nIV. Why?\nWe are struggling with the impacts from COVID-19 all around the world and are seeking solutions to keep our dancers happy and engaged. Our future is unpredictable at the moment in terms of safely travelling to international competitions. The IDO has invested 40 years and great effort into the development of the top tier World Championships that we have today. We now have the technology to bring a solution to our current situation and bring our dancers into the future…. Furthermore\, this isn’t just about the IDO community – we want to include the world in our exciting new event! Dancers will not be restricted by social\, financial\, or affiliations – there is no travel costs\, costuming\, or new choreography needed. You may use any performance from January 2019 to present with only ONE LOW ENTRY FEE.
