The successful candidate will provide administrative and project support for Usha Gupta Dance Entourage. They must be dynamic and motivated individuals with an attention to detail and strong, organizational skills. A minimum of three (3) years minimum related experience, with a background in arts administration. The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as solid computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat) and ability to work on PC. The candidate will also possess a valid drivers' license and have their own transportation. Additionally, this position offers the opportunity for international touring and as such, experience in such matters will be an asset.

Athabasca, AB - Athabasca Dance Society: Dance Instructors

The Athabasca Dance Society, in the town of Athabasca, seeks qualified teachers for our recreational dance programme during the 2018-2019 season.

Job Description:

Requirements:

  • Education:
    • ​​Graduated from a private dance school or academy
    • Certification through an organization such as the Royal Academy of Dance, Ceccheti Society, Vagavona, CDTA, ADAPT, Acrobatic Arts, Acrobatique is a definite asset. As well any fitness training or certifications such as Pilates or Yoga
  • Experience:
    • 2 years as dance instructor, teaching and handling groups of multiple ages.
    • Has an understanding of basic anatomy and muscle function
    • Detail oriented and able to meet deadlines
    • Ability to teach and design fitness classes is a definite asset

Salary:  $34.29 - $36.29 per hour, 30 – 35 Hours per week

Important information:

  • Seasonal position: September 1st 2018 thru to May 31, 2019 for a duration of nine months, starting again the following September.​
  • Work Schedule: Evenings 4:00PM-9:30PM. Mon-Fri, Saturdays 9:00AM-3:00PM. These hours will be depending on scheduling in the fall. The teacher will work during these days and times but not necessarily all of these hours. Some daytime hours 9am-12pm

Calgary, AB - H/W School of Ballet: Ballet Teachers

H/W School of Ballet is looking to hire 2 ballet teachers for the upcoming 2018/2019 school year!  We are interested in a Junior teacher for Grades.1-4, and an Intermediate/Advanced teacher for ages 12-15.  We are a newer school founded by 3 former principal dancers Yukichi Hattori, Galien Johnston Hattori and Tara Williamson Campbell.  Our teaching methodology incorporates various syllabi, including RAD and Vaganova. Ultimately we want our students to be mindful and versatile dancers so that they are fully prepared for a career in the professional world. Our focus is on strong ballet technique, which we believe to be the true foundation of dance, but all dancers also train in contemporary in order to understand and develop a diversity in their movement, which is a requirement of many professional dance companies. In addition to ballet and contemporary classes, we teach pointe, body conditioning, choreography, dance history, men’s classes, character and variations classes.

We strive to have classes end at a reasonable hour, no later than 7:30pm.  The Grade.1-4 is a part time position, running Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings (between 4:15pm- 7:30pm), as well as Saturday morning (9:00am- 10:20am).  The Intermediate/Advanced position is more full time running from Monday to Friday (various times between 1:00pm-7:30pm).  Pay Rate is negotiable and will depend on resume and experience.

Additionally, if you are a dancer or former dancer, there is an opportunity to perform in our annual Blue Gala (400 people in attendance). Fort McMurray, AB -  University Studies Dept.: Physical Education Instructor (Contract Position)

The University Studies Department requires an instructor to teach a contract course, PESS 293E – Introduction to the Movement Activities of Children Aged 5 – 12 during the Winter 2018 semester.

This course is part of our Bachelor of Education, Elementary Education program and is taught to second year students.  The course is a study of play and other movement activities including games, gymnastics, and dance for children. Topics include a study of the movement activities engaged in by children 5-12 years of age, an introduction to the characteristics and needs of children 5-12 years of age, a survey of the opportunities provided for children to participate in movement activities, movement analysis, and the provision of suitable environments and activities for children 5-12 years of age.

 QUALIFICATIONS:  Minimum Master’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a MEd with Physical Education specialization.  Work experience and post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

Edmonton, AB – danceED Movement Project: Part-Time Dance Instructors

dancED Movement Project is looking to hire part-time dance instructors for various upcoming contracts throughout the 17/18 school year.

About dancED:
dancED Movement Project offers engaging one to two week dance focused artist-in-residence programs for students. Professional dancers work with each class to teach movement fundamentals, explore movement creation, and rehearse a comprehensive and challenging dance routine. All programs finish with the highly anticipated final showcase where students perform for their peers, parents and teachers in a full-scale production. 

Currently, dancED Movement Project delivers two main program options to capture the diversity of today’s dance and performance spectrum:

  • Hip-Hop: This program is fun and upbeat with a strong focus on quality of movement and musicality. Students will learn what makes hip-hop unique from other forms of dance: sharpness of movement, rhythm and attitude.
  • Broadway: Each class will perform a routine from a wide range of Broadway musicals such as Jersey Boys, Hairspray, Anything Goes, Mamma Mia, Wicked and West Side Story to name a few.  This program focuses on theatricality and expression.

Job Details:

We are looking to hire instructors for various one, two or three-week contracts throughout the 17/18 school year 

  • most residencies focus on elementary grades (kindergarten-grade 6), however some include junior high as well
  • guaranteed 6-7 hours of instruction each day (on an 8:30am-3:30pm basis)
  • pay starts at $25/hour
  • we are looking for highly energetic, enthusiastic and organized instructors with extensive dance training as well as a strong performance background.
  • extensive experience working with children ranging from 5-12 years old is required
