Dance Instructor / Calgary, AB

Responsibilities:

Experienced dance instructors teach a variety of dance programs which may include jazz, hip hop, ballet, breakdancing, modern or tap for preschoolers, children, youth and adults. Under supervision, instructors are responsible for leading, planning and instruction in recreational dance programs requiring the development of skills, technique and knowledge in the activity/discipline area.

Primary duties include:

  • teach specific skills to participants through progressive development and sharing of knowledge;
  • assess participant needs and provide adaptations as necessary;
  • ensure safety of participants;
  • prepare and maintain equipment, supplies and program space;
  • maintain program records and assist with program evaluation;
  • maintain a high degree of customer service.

    Qualifications:

    The successful applicant must possess a certification, post-secondary education and/or advanced training in discipline, as well as previous leadership and instructional experience in discipline. Must have or be willing to obtain a Standard First Aid Certification and CPR Level "C" certification prior to first day of employment.

    Success in this position requires:
  • demonstrated skill, knowledge and proficiency in area of instruction;
  • excellent communication skills and positive representation of City Recreation programs;
  • demonstrated initiative, planning, and organizational skills;
  • ability to adapt to changing needs of program and/or participants and; sound judgment in safety standards

    Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

    Only education obtained from an accredited institution will be recognized as meeting the minimum qualifications. More than one position may be filled from this competition.

GP Dancer’s Academy / Grande Prairie, AB


Dance Instructors wanted for 2012/13 season.

The GP Dancer’s Academy is a well-established dance school in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Three fully equipped studios accommodate over 300 dance students each year. We offer annual RAD examinations and are planning to expand into CDTA exams in the coming year. We have a group of senior competitive dancers and participate with the entire school in local dance festivals. Every August we offer a 2 week summer program geared towards exam candidates but with guest instructors.

We are looking for enthusiastic, qualified dance instructors for the ballet, jazz, lyrical and hip hop programs. Classes run 6 days a week, September to May, with holidays following the academic school calendar. The position(s) would commence in September although the summer program in August may also be available.
